Here’s a great 5-6 hour hike that incorporates a few of the Ashram hikes (MASH Site/Bulldog/Castro Peak/Corral Cyn Cave/Tapia Cyn) into one.
– Start at the end of Crags Rd. (southeast of Malibou Lake).
– Walking east into Malibu Creek State Park along Crags Rd to Bulldog Rd. and make a right (south). You will be heading uphill for about 3 miles on the main trail/fireroad (Bulldog Lateral to Bulldog Mtrwy).
– Past the gate at the top (Castro Peak), make a left (east) and head downhill (Castro Peak Mtrwy) to the parking lot at the top of Corral Cyn.
– Continue east to the Corral Cyn Cave and onto the fireroad for about 3 miles and make a left (north) at Corral Cyn/Puerco Cyn Mtrwy. Note:Do NOT take Puerto Cyn Mtrwy south/towards ocean.
– Staying on Coral Cyn Rd to Mesa Peak Tractor Way (downhill) to Malibu Cyn Rd parking lot. There is a bathroom here.
– Continuing north from the bathroom and crossing the driveway for the Tapia Water Reclamation Facility, follow signs for the Backbone Trail.
– Trail will connect with the driveway for Tapia Campground/Dorothy Dr., head left (northwest). Continue on Dorothy Dr. to the Salvation Army:Mt. Crags Camp driveway and just past is the Tapia Spur Trail.
– Take the Tapia Spur Trail about a half mile uphill, then down into Malibu Creek State Park parking lot. Follow the asphalt driveway (Century Mtrwy) to Crags Rd. and head left (west).
– You will pass the Malibu Creek State Park Visitor Center on your left and cross the bridge.
– Stay on Crags Rd and you will pass Century Lake (on your left), then cross another small bridge and into the MASH television show site.
– From the MASH site, stay on Crags Rd, past Bulldog Rd (staying to your right) and back to your starting point (about a mile from the MASH site).Feel free to post questions…
